We have very much enjoyed taking the various ferries around the coast (not least because doing so avoids often lengthy detours inland!). We do not consider this cheating!
Here is a list of the ferries we have used on our trips.
|Bosham||Worthing||Southbourne||Tiny little boat with barely enough room for both of us & bikes.|
|Hayling Island||Southbourne||Southampton||Commercial operation. Long wait.|
|Gosport||Southbourne||Southampton||Highly commercial operation. Very slick.|
|Hamble River||Southbourne||Southampton||Very pink!|
|Poole Harbour||Poole||Weymouth||Chain ferry passing Brownsea Island|
|River Dart||Torquay||Plymouth||Commercial operation. One of two across the River Dart.|
|Salcombe||Torquay||Plymouth||Eastern boarding point tucked away out of sight.|
|Tamar||Plymouth||Mevagissey||Good views across Plymouth Sound|
|Fowey||Plymouth||Mevagissey||I don’t remember this one!|
|Falmouth||Mevagissey||Penzance||Expensive commercial operation|
|Helford Passage||Mevagissey||Penzance||Expensive but small!|
|Padstow||Newquay||Bude||Long walk across the beach if the tide is out.|
|Mersey||Colwyn Bay||Liverpool||In the words of the song….|
|Fleetwood||Preston||Lancaster||Not running because of high winds, We took a taxi instead!|
